Edipresse Suisse becomes Tamedia Publications romandes
Edipresse Suisse and Tamedia (the media company based in Zurich) have created a national media enterprise. The merger is effective on January 1, 2012.
Edipresse Suisse becomes officially Tamedia Publications romandes as of April 4, 2012.
Tamedia Publications romandes comprises all the activities of the Tamedia media group in French-speaking Switzerland, such as the newspapers 24 heures, Le Matin, Le Matin Dimanche and Tribune de Genève as well as magazines such as Femina, Encore! and Bilan.
History of Tamedia Publications romandes
The origins of Edipresse date back to the company Société de la Feuille d’Avis de Lausanne et des Imprimeries Réunies SA, which was founded in 1907. It published the daily newspapers Feuille d’Avis de Lausanne, which was founded in 1762, as well as the Tribune de Lausanne, which was first published in 1893. In addition, the company also operated a printing plant. In 1925, the company was acquired by Lousonna SA, which was founded by Charles Patru, Jaques Lamunière and Samuel Payot. Lousonna SA integrated its graphic design, distribution and book publishing services into the new company. In 1982 Lousonna SA split into several companies. The former Société de la Feuille d’Avis de Lausanne et des Imprimeries Réunies SA was renamed 24 heures-Imprimeries Réunies SA and set its focus on publishing newspapers and magazines. The holding company Edipresse SA was established in 1988 and expanded into various foreign markets in the following years.
In March 2009, Tamedia and Edipresse Switzerland announced their plan to gradually merge their Swiss activities. Since 1st January, 2011, Tamedia has held a majority share of 50.1% in Presse Publications SR SA, which incorporates all the Swiss activities of Edipresse.
Since 1st May, 2011, Edipresse Switzerland has been managed by Serge Reymond as one of Tamedia’s divisions. Edipresse and Tamedia started to restructure their activities back in April 2011. The merger was completed on 1st September, 2011, and the working conditions were unified on 1st January, 2012.
As of 4th April, 2012, Edipresse Suisse is called Tamedia Publications romandes.

THE NETHERLANDS - BNR Nieuwsradio: French elections 2012
BNR Tour de France
BNR Nieuwsradio specializes in news and is therefore driven by current affairs. Our reporters travel the world in search of the latest news so that our listeners can be certain of remaining fully informed. But news requires context, which is why BNR also broadcasts background programmes and discussions in which current affairs are placed in their broader context. The events of today are often closely linked to those of the past.
French elections 2012
Since the euro crisis, national politics is European politics, and vice versa. Especially the economic decisions of one have a direct impact on the economy of the other. National elections are therefore important for each Member State. Especially when it is a big country like France. There is a possibility that, for the first time since 1995, again a socialist president is chosen. That means no pension reforms, increased government spending, and a bigger grasp of the state on the private sector. And that will affect the Dutch government finances and numerous Dutch companies doing business with France.
Paradoxically, a socialist president could be positive for the Netherlands as 2012 seems to become a disastrous year for the Dutch economy. The Netherlands may benefit from a country like France which will become more 'flexible' towards the economy.
After Germany, France is the main trading partner of the Netherlands. Netherlands exported in 2011 over 36 billion Euros to France (an increase of 7% compared to the previous year) and France to the Netherlands for 16.8 billion (+15%). That means a trade surplus for the Netherlands of 52 million per day! Many large French companies have their (letterbox) headquarters in the Netherlands. Despite these ties, France is relatively unknown. In the Netherlands Germany is watched closely or rather the U.S.. While the latter country economically is less important than its European partners.
What the result may be: the French presidential election has a direct impact on the everyday lives of the Dutch. BNR news radio will explore this unknown side.
BNR seizes the French elections to explore the above topics in greater depth; Two weeks before the French elections on the 6th of May, BNR will broadcast a series of in-depth reports on the economic state of France. In addition, BNR will broadcast a number of programs live from Paris:
‘Doing business with...’, Friday the 4th of May, 12:30 – 2:00 PM
‘Doing business with...’ is a programme which approaches news and current affairs from the business perspective, and vice versa. Successful entrepreneurs and top managers meet at various business ‘hotspots’ as the programme travels to a new location each day. They not only talk, they actually conduct business and close deals during the programme itself. This is another format which is ideally suited to an international broadcast.
Paul van Liempt, Monday the 7th of May 09:30 – 12:00 AM
Paul van Liempt presents a programme with a mix of hard news and entertainment. Van Liempt is known for his sharp, incisive insights and ready wit. His programme examines the news in greater depth and its format is ideally suited to an outside (international) broadcast. In Paris, Paul van Liempt will interview various guests before a live audience.

SPAIN - Meristation - New layout of #1 online video game review site
PRISA’s Meristation, the #1 online video game review site in Spanish speaking markets, debuts with a new image on the web.
Meristation was founded by Pep Sánchez in 1997. According to December Comscore data, Meristation has over 2.602.000 unique users per month, making it the videogame information leader in Spain for the last 14 consecutive years.
Among the new features included in the release is a new vertical social network focused on gaming. This allows users to share their interests, make new friends, create new game collections and favorites lists, and view their friend´s activities. This social community already has almost half a million members.
New video production is another highlight in the re-launch. The “El Pixel” daily program and the informative, “Estamos Jugando”, program are broadcasted in high definition that is compatible with Apple’s iOS devices and other mobility platforms.
Meristation now includes reviews of more casual games on the iPhone, iPad and Android platforms, allowing its users to receive the latest news and tips and secrets for their games.
The interface of the new site has been revamped, has a more modern look and feel and offers a better and more streamlined experience for the user. Additionally, fifteen years of videogame history and analysis are available to its users.
The Meristation community has played an invaluable role in the design and features of the new site. The community provided suggestions, through a collaborative process, such as punctuating games by section, adding avatars to forum posts, including a “Retro” channel for classic consoles and adding videogame coverage from its beginnings in 1958.
Once the beta launch is complete, the site´s new technology platform will make it easier and quicker to add new functionality and improvements, which will take place over the next year.

ard Magazine, the Saturday lifestyle magazine with De Standaard, will soon be completely restyled and resized.
As of 10 March, De Standaard Magazine will be published in a fresh, new layout and a practical, trendy size.
What brought along this new style and size ?
- First mission was to complete the cycle of renewed “weekend product” for the reader : the DS Weekend newspaper has been restyled last year, the weekly DS Weekblad current affairs & news magazine has been launched in September 2011, and, as a last part of this Weekend Trilogy, DS Magazine will be restyled as from 10th March 2012.
- For the restyling the lifestyle magazine DS Magazine, the editorial & research department has awaited the reaction and comments of the readers to DS Weekblad. The plan is to use this input for the restyling of DS Magazine and thus to create a homogeneous magazine-package for the readers; both in content, style and physical form.
- The restyling of DS Magazine is essential to preserve the increase of the readership level of DS Magazine for the next years.
How will the new DS Magazine be launched ?
There will be a huge marketing campaign to launch the new DS Magazine on 10th March :

- The circulation in the first 3 weeks will be increased with 10.000 copies (ca. +10%)
The main theme of the marketing campaign emphasizes the upscale lifestyle mission of DS magazine :
In each copy of DS magazine of 10 March there will be a free imprint design, made by Bruno Pieters, which can be ironed on your favourite garment.
Bruno Pieters is a Belgian and international re-known top-designer who worked as artistic director for Hugo Boss, Delvaux, Martin Margiela, Christian Lacroix,...
The iron imprint will be inserted together with the DS magazine into the newspaper.
DS Magazine iPad app
At the occasion of the launch of the restyled magazine, De Standaard iPad app (ca. 10.000 downloads per day) features an additional free App of DS Magazine.
In conclusion, all elements are put in place to give DS Magazine and a well-researched image upgrade.
