Belgium: Nieuwsblad.be - leading among all flemish news sites

The CIM Metriprofil survey publishes every 6 months reach and profile figures of the affiliated internet sites. The new figures are for the period November 2008- April 2009.The general trend is the growing gap in reach between news sites and portals Nieuwsblad.be stays the principal flemish news site and in Wallonia the largest increase is for Actu24.be, the news site of Les Editions de l'Avenir.

Growing gap between news sites and portals
After a short stabilisation during the former wave, the reach of portals keeps decreasing: the total reach of the three largest portals (MSN, Zita and Skynet) declines with 16% on the flemish speaking population, and with 11% on the french speaking population. The biggest loser is MSN : -35% on the flemish and -23% on the french speaking population. This makes the gap between portals and news sites even bigger.

Nieuwsblad.be confirms its position of principal Flemish news site
In spite of the declining net reach of the news sites among the flemish speaking population (-4%), nieuwsblad.be is still the largest flemish news site. Niewsblad has a net reach of 29,5%* among Dutch speaking population. De Standaard Online confirms with a net reach of 19,2%* among Dutch speaking population its market leadership in the quality segment.

Actu24.be is one of the strongest growers in the south of Belgium
Among the french speaking population, the net reach of the news sites is still growing  further (+5%). The highest increase is for RTBF INFO (+37%), Actu24.be (+21%), L'Echo (+23%) and Sud Presse(+16%).

NewsBrandsOnline : the highest reach online
The collaboration of CorelioConnect and Beweb has become more intense with the NewsBrandsOnline programme: a combination of several important Belgian news sites. According to the CIM Metriprofil survey, this way 2 million people are reached every week, which makes NewsBrandsOnline market leader. In merely 12 months,  the NewsBrandsOnline packages became very popular among advertisers.

Belgium: De Standaard rise in circulation

According to the results of the latest Belgian media survey CIM 2009 "De Standaard", Belgium’s leading quality and business newspaper, has the strongest increase in paid circulation among all Flemish newspaper titles (+2,4% vs 1st Sem 2008).

In a slightly decreasing newspaper market (Belgium: -1.5%;  Flanders: -0.7%) De Standaard was the only one which showed an increase in circulation (CIM 2009) and readership (CIM 2007-2008; + 14%, thus reaching a new record of 355,000 readers per day). The significant positive development consolidates "De Standaard's" leading position among the quality newspapers.
